WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS (THEY SAID) – SHALL WE TALK ABOUT IT?

Only 10% of Fashion Houses Led by Women

The recent reshuffling of creative leadership at major fashion houses has brought attention to the underrepresentation of women in top roles.

Virginie Viard and Maria Grazia Chiuri have been sent back to the bench.
Both were harshly criticized by the self-proclaimed fashion experts on social media.

Virginie Viard may not have revolutionized fashion history (but is that even necessary?), yet she held the house of Chanel for five years.
How many forget that the Kaiser himself chose her as a close collaborator? — Respect.

Maria Grazia Chiuri — how many overlook her unwavering support for artists, artisans, and culture? Her commitment to women’s rights?
For eight years, she brought these values to life at Dior. — Respect.

With the bold appointments of Matthieu Blazy and Jonathan Anderson, widely praised by fashion insiders, this “coaching” change also (or above all?) underscores the growing gender imbalance at the top of fashion’s powerhouses.

Sadly, we’ve gone from 7 women out of 20 to just 5.
Add the uncertainty surrounding the leadership of Fendi Women’s (who’s taking over?) and we may soon be down to 4.

And if we set aside Miuccia and Rei — both founders — we could be left with only two women among the top 20 creative directors in fashion today.
